Join Melissa Mead for a transformative 9-week pottery course designed to nurture both your body and mind. “Cata-claytion Handbuilding and Wheel Throwing” invites participants to create change and react to the clay through a gentle, mindful approach. This course is perfect for intermediate clay makers looking to deepen their pottery practice, or experienced potters keen for a space to release their creativity
Course Overview:
“Cata-claytion” integrates the art of handbuilding with wheel-throwing. Creating with both forms of making. The course offers a unique opportunity to explore while developing essential pottery skills. Over the course of nine weeks, participants will:
Learn Core Handbuilding Techniques: Explore fundamental handbuilding methods, creating forms of your choice with emphasis on shaping, decorating and refining.
Wheel Throwing: Experience the basics of wheel throwing, from centering the clay to creating simple yet beautiful pottery pieces.
Create for Pleasure: Focus on the joy of making rather than perfection. Participants will create pottery that brings satisfaction and connection to the present moment.

This course is designed for individuals of all skill levels, from those with some prior experience to intermediates. Whether you're seeking a creative outlet, a way to unwind, or a way to delve into the world of clay, “Cata-Claytion” is the perfect class for you.

Instructor: Melissa Mead, an experienced potter with over 18 years in the ceramics field.
Course Duration: 9 weeks, starting February 11, 2025.
Location: Flat3A / 8 Henry Rose Place, Albany, Auckland.
Cost: $400 (Includes all materials and firing).
Dates & Time: Tuesdays, 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM (Starting February 9, 2025).

Melissa Mead is an accomplished potter based in Auckland, New Zealand. With 18 years of experience, she combines her expertise in ceramics with a passion for teaching, creating a welcoming environment for her students to explore their creativity. Her unique pottery style is inspired by the natural beauty of Aotearoa, and her classes focus on both the technical and therapeutic aspects of working with clay.
