Sustainable Studio Practices

Reduce...

Every effort is made to decrease the amount of waste created in the studio. Our magic glaze mix is a good example of this. Normally it would end up in the waste water or in the landfill. We rather collect glaze waste in a tub and then create a magic bespoke glaze that is never exactly same.

Reuse…

All of our clay is reclaimed and mixed with new clay. We do our best to respect sustainability practices, for us, this means cherishing the process. All trimmings, scraps, slippy wheel mess - it all goes into the reclaim given a second chance at becoming a beloved vessel.

Our packaging shows that pottery is about community. From the local community art centres, coffee shops and offices clean packaging is collected regularly. Cardboard, shredded paper, even foam (used for packaging electronics). We try to source all of this as reused materials.

Recycle...

Technically the art of taking clay and making it into a vessel - is recycling. To take one thing and make it useful as another. At MeadCeramics I’m thinking of something more however. We are currently taking seconds and using it as a substrate in our parking space but we are hoping to take this further. If you are interested in creating mosaics with glazed seconds please get in touch.
